there are insufficient hospitals and clinics In Malawi, with few Doctors And Nurses (Doctor to Patient Ratio – 1:50,000, Nurse to Patient Ratio – 1:80). Most Malawian Doctors And Nurses are working out of Malawi. These problems are also affecting people in Gusu.
To make it worse, most government Hospitals don’t Have Enough Medicine and people are dying of preventable diseases (Cholera, Malaria, polio, Etc).
Apart from not having enough doctors and nurses, and lack of medicine in hospitals, most people in Gusu die or suffer from preventable diseases due to lack of education in basic health and sanitation. E-3 International aims at addressing these issues by
Teaching People Basic Health And Sanitation Methods To Prevent Contracting Diseases
Train People In Home Based Care
Build a Clinic With Medical Personnel Available
Stock Clinics With Sufficient Drugs And Equipment
Distance to a nearest medical facility also plays a big role in villagers dying or suffering from diseases. The nearest medical facility is two hours walk (17.5km). As a result, most people go to hospitals when its too late, or dont go at all.
CURRENT INTERVENSIONS
E-3 International occassionally conducts Medical Clinics in the village. At each clinic approximately 200 people are seein in a space of 6 houses. Many people go back unattended due to time constraints. Our wish is to be able to do these clinics at least twice a month (each medical clinic costs $600 a day.
